I ran RB's image processor on the same list of images as before, and was surprised to see it convert all the JPGs to PNGs in approximately 10 seconds. However, it is much slower than IrfanView and slightly faster than Photoshop. After conducting further testing, I have to partially retract my previous statement. It is a command-line tool that is easy to use for conversions and will also work on a Mac. ImageMagick is also free and open-source. The batch processing feature can be found under File > Batch Conversion, which is useful if you need to convert hundreds of images. Irfanview (Windows only) is free to download, but it's too slow. Another issue is that during the conversion process, Photoshop cannot be used – whereas with a simple conversion utility, you can leave it running in the background and continue using PS for other work if required. This is a significant difference, especially when working with large numbers of images. I simply do not have the time to wait for Photoshop to complete the task. ![]() ![]() To illustrate this difference in performance, I conducted a quick test: a folder containing 10 images in JPG format, each measuring 5600px by 5600px. Photoshop is incredibly slow for this type of work. However, if I'm being honest, I would prefer to use a more efficient and far faster conversion utility like IrfanView for such tasks.
